Jnana Yoga – straight but difficult path to knowledge

May 22nd, 2009

Jnana Yoga is one type of Yoga that is different, in that it represents the pursuit of true knowledge and the never ending search of the practitioner in trying to recognize the dissimilarities between real and the virtual, the enduring and the transient. This Jnana Yoga was holistically referred to as the only straight but difficult path to knowledge. This type of Yoga lays great emphasis on the tenet that you can attain salvation only through detachment from material and other things that are temporary and the importance of controlling the mind and senses through faith and concentration.

It is well known that Jnana Yoga has its moorings in the philosophy of non dualism espoused by Hinduism. The holistic approach of Yoga made it possible for it to gain acceptance even among Zen, Islamic Sufism, Buddhism and Jnana Yoga was no different. This type of Yoga extols the human mind to look beyond its boundaries to seek knowledge that is pure and unhindered. Individuals practicing Jnana Yoga gains a lot of self control over his emotions and is able to detach them selves from all things surreal and transient.

The escape to true knowledge that this type of Yoga seeks to achieve is through the process of gaining that knowledge without getting into the chores of rituals and mundane ceremonies. Individuals seeking success combine the practice of this Yoga along with reading of ancient scriptures, which gives them the maturity and sense of awakening to understand them and weigh them against their own experiences. The rigorous practice of Jnana Yoga prepares the individual and equips him with the insight to be able to discern truth from falsehood.

Jnana Yoga helps an individual to attain a lot of mental peace and makes him a calm and composed person. No adversity or trouble can get the better of such individuals and the fact that the individual is always in control of his emotions ensure that he is never flustered. Jnana Yoga also teaches the art of cessation, where in the individual stops pursuing activities that do not contribute to overall health and spiritual enlightenment. Practicing Jnana Yoga over a sustained period of time enables a person to develop endurance such that he is unaffected by external play of forces and is able to deal with unforeseen turn of events in a much better fashion. Jnana Yoga also teaches a person to engage himself in his duty without any expectation of profits or rewards and that is a reflection of true renunciation.

To summarize, Jnana Yoga can be described as the pursuit of knowledge such that it helps us develop control over our senses and through the realization of our true nature, we achieve liberation from the cycle of births and rebirths. The holy book of Hindus, the Bhagavad-Gita has identified the path of knowledge espoused by Jnana Yoga as one of the most significant pathways to true liberation, the others being the path of devotion and the path of action. Jnana Yoga has been recommended for people of intellect and such people are able to experience swift equanimity of mind through better mental discipline achieved by the regular practice of Jnana Yoga.

This spyware and adware is so dangerous and fast in infecting the computer, that there is a whole industry working at combating them.

To help protect your computer from this spyware, and yourself from great personal damage, you have to run internet security software on your machine. This software helps in protecting the computer from invasion of your privacy and any disruption to the functioning of the computer.

Typical adware spyware protection software should be able to locate, isolate and also remove all types of spyware from your computer. It should work on a timed scheduler and as a real time blocking tool and be able to handle any eventuality, including rollback and restore facilities. It should also be able to index the severity of the spyware and adware located on the computer.

Install internet protection software in the computer

It is not possible to actually spot spyware, as unlike a virus, it does not replicate itself. This spyware can enter via downloads or even by clicking pop-up ads.

This is why it is important you install some protective software on your computer. In addition to this, the spyware blocker will also alert you of any dangerous websites you may come across.

You can also tell when spyware enters the computer when you find changes in the functioning of it. These changes may be unexpected – changing of the internet home page, the computer running slowly or pop up ads suddenly appearing frequently.

Dust the computer internally and externally

Now that the software of the computer is cleaned, you have to work at cleaning the computer’s hardware. As computers tend to accumulate dust, keep it clean by dusting it periodically. It is not enough to dust externally; you have to also open and clean the computer with a vacuum cleaner or some dust remover once in a while.

Extensive use of the computer can heat the computer; so ensure that the PC is kept cool at all times. This can be done by keeping the computer in a ventilated area or in an air conditioned room. This not only keeps the computer cool, but also helps in prolonging the life of the computer hardware.

Buy good quality hardware that is compatible with your computer

If you have to buy any hardware for your computer, make sure that you buy quality hardware. It is only if you buy your hardware from reputed companies that you are ensured of receiving technical support if and when required.

Moreover, parts from reputable companies are always well made and are compatible with the other hardware of the computer. There is no point in buying hardware that you will not be able to use.

With all these periodic cleaning up tips for your computer, you will be sure that your computer works to the best of its abilities and serves you for a long time. And with the right internet security tools installed, you need not worry about any hacker accessing the personal information you have stored on your computer.

The computer is today a necessity for everyone, from businessmen, professionals, students, the unemployed and even housewives; everyone has a need for computers. There are basically two types of computers; laptops and personal computers. However whatever the brand and type your computer is, be sure to take proper care of it so that it can serve you longer.

There are things you can do to prolong both the hardware and software of the computer. The software is most vulnerable to viruses, malware and overloading of the computer, this is why it is important to run the defragmenter utility at least once a month.

Once you defragment a computer, you can be sure that all your files are in the right place and in the process you help improve the computer’s speed. It is quite natural that you will be installing and downloading lots of software on your computer.

Use the Disk Cleanup Utility occasionally

And while you install and uninstall software, there are going to be lots of unwanted files remaining in temporary and system folders on the hard-drive. Clean this up by running your Disk Cleanup utility once in a while. This is easy to do; just click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then finally, Dick Cleanup.

The next thing you have to do to your computer is to scan it for viruses which can make your computer run slower or even not at all. To do this, have a good virus scanner installed such as Norton, McAfee or AVG.

However it is not sufficient to just install a virus scanner; with new viruses emerging on the internet every second, you have to keep updating the virus scanner to ensure it eliminates even these new viruses.

Keep scanning the computer for malware

Next in line in the computer software maintenance is to scan the computer for malware. This malware can be anything from adware and spyware, to Trojan horses. All this malware enters the computer while surfing the internet, without you actually knowing and it can play havoc with your computer.

This spyware is not only dangerous because they may slow down the computer; they also collect vital information you have on your PC without your knowledge. And all this personal information of yours that the spyware detects is reported to its owner.

This means that any bank account information, social security numbers, other such private information and even secret passwords on your computer falls in the hands of this person.

Punjabi Wedding Ceremony

May 13th, 2009

A traditional Punjabi wedding is conducted in Punjabi and has a strong punjabi influence.  The marriage rites are conducted in the Punjabi language by the priest.  The Punjabi wedding is full of fun and frolic with traditional Punjabi songs and dances specially designed for the marriage function.   Punjabis are basically fun loving people and this is clearly reflected in their festivals, traditions and customs.
Chuda and Ghara Ghardoli – The priest conducts a puja (traditional rites) in front of the sacred fire.  A sacred thread (mauli) is then tied on the bride’s wrist.   The bride’s eldest maternal uncle and aunt have a very important role to play.  They need to fast until this event is completed.   The girl has to wear a set of traditional white and cream ivory bangles.  All present for the ceremony have to touch these bangles.  They bless the girl and give their best wishes.  Traditional gold plated traditional ornaments are then tied to the bangles of the girl.

Four lamps are lit and the bride sits in front of the lamps.  The lamps are kept burning so that the glow from the lamps are reflected on the bride’s face.  A typical paste of turmeric and mustard oil is then applied to the bride by the female members of the family.  The girl looks beautiful and there is glow on her face.

The girl’s brother visits any nearby temple, fills it with holy water and the girl is bathed in this water.  These ceremonies take place at the bridegroom’s place at well.  The bride and the groom then adorn their new wedding dress.  The maternal uncles of the bride and groom present these to them.

Sehrabandi and Ghodi Chadna (Wearing of traditional turban and riding the decorated horse) – This is also one of the most important customary rituals.  The groom wears an attractive and bright pink turban, which is blessed by elders of the family.  Whoever is there to witness this function, giveaway gifts and cash to the groom?  The next ceremony is applying the surma (eye mascara). This is normally done by the groom’s sister in law.   They then feed the horse with food.  The groom climbs the horse and then proceeds towards the wedding venue.   Money is given away to the musicians who play the percussion; this is basically to ward off any evil eyes.  Traditional Punjabi dances and folklore are performed.

Milni Ceremony (Welcoming the bridegroom and his family) – The groom and his family are given a warm welcome by the bride’s family.  They are welcomed with scented flowers and garlands and with the sprinkling of rose water.  Shagun (token of respect) is given to the groom’s close relatives by the bride’s family. Normally, cash and clothes are given as shagun.

Varmala and Wedding Puja (rituals)
Garlands are exchanged between the bride and the bridegroom.  The near and dear ones tease the couple on this happy occasion.  A muhurat (auspicious time) for the wedding is chosen.  A puja with the chanting of the sacred mantras (chants) is performed in front of the bride and groom.  The groom repeats these chants.    This is when the bride’s sister steals her brother in law’s shoes and hides them.  The groom is supposed to pay off some cash and get his shoes back.  This is a fun filled tradition and the bride’s sister earns a lot of money.
The bride is escorted to the wedding dais and kanyadaan is performed by the bride’s father. He puts a ring on the groom’s finger and gives away his daughter to the groom.  Seven rounds are taken by both the bride and the groom in front of the holy fire.  Then the couple seeks blessings of all the elders of both the bride and the groom’s family.
